Artist: Sister Hazel
For anyone who enjoyed Sister Hazel's Live LIVE CD, this DVD is the next best thing. The first half of it is an on the road
documentary with the band and the crew. It starts out with all five band members squeezed into a tiny room, furnished
with a toilet, a mirror, and a sink. The guys are all crowded around the mirror, fixing their hair and such as they discuss
what song to start with in the show that evening. After a short discussion, the guys exit the room one by one, clearly excited
about the show they're about to play. The camera remains on the door as it closes behind them, and you can see a paper plate
taped to the door that reads "Sister Hazel Dressing Room."
The documentary takes you on a journey through a typical Sister Hazel day, from hanging out on the tour bus, to sound checks,
to playing the shows, and what goes on between one show and the next. It's loaded with interesting facts and interview clips
with the band and crew, as well as clips of fans sharing their favorite Sister Hazel songs. Aside from their regular touring
life, A Life in the Day also takes you on a cruise, for a behind the scenes look at 'The Rock Boat,' a charitable concert
done on a cruise ship. The concert is four days long, features approximately 30 bands, and the money goes to support funds for
cancer research as well as studies of cures for other life threatening diseases.
One thing that I really liked about this DVD, is that just like on the CD...perhaps a little more so than the CD even -due to the fact
that the DVD is visual - you get a real sense of the bands connection with the fans. One specific example of this is at one
of the band's shows, their hotel room was directly across the street from the venue they were playing that night. As fans began to
line up outside, the band stood out on the balcony of their hotel, waving to fans, and they even had their business manager order
pizzas and pass them out to fans standing in line. There’s tons of footage of them interacting with their fans, signing autographs,
taking photos, and more. Another thing I loved is that the DVD is loaded with simple yet very effective humor.
After the documentary is a Sister Hazel concert from Orlando's House Of Blues. It features pretty much the exact set list as
on the CD, only unlike the CD, the set list shows up on the DVD as it is played on stage, instead of in a sporadic order.
