My World

Movie: Avril Lavigne - My World
Rating: 3 of 5

If you are a fan of Avril Lavigne, this is a DVD you can’t miss. Basically, My World is a taping of her Try To Shut Me Up Tour in Buffalo, New York although it includes a really good array of extras.

The live taping would have been good if it weren't for the poor editing, or shall I say over editing. Halfway through the first song, I was already getting a headache due to the overuse of the nifty little freeze frame effect. They also couldn’t seem to decide on a good angle because they switched the angles at least every five seconds. It became very confusing and difficult to watch. Although, if you can deal with those things or you did not get a chance to go to the concert, it is a nice thing to have.

I have to say, by far, the extras are my favorite. Of course, it has the standard music videos and little photo gallery, but there is also a section called Avril’s Cut as well as some pretty funny outtakes and a CD containing a few unreleased and live tracks. While first watching Avril’s Cut, I was a bit confused because a lot of the bottles she would be holding would be blurred out. I later figured out it was because she was drinking beers throughout most of her tour. Avril’s Cut takes you behind the scenes of the tour and lets you see how she interacts with her band and fans. She and her band really seem to have fun together. They are constantly skateboarding or causing trouble. At one point, Avril takes a golf cart on a little joy ride and gets pulled over by a cop who yells at her and asks if she is drunk. At one point when they are over in I think Japan, Avril and the boys go out on a balcony outside the venue and get the fans to sing along with them to Complicated.

This is a really good DVD for those of you who are hardcore Avril fans as well as new fans. It gives you a glimpse into her daily life on tour while also bringing an awesome tour straight into your own home. Regardless of the obvious mistakes that the editors made, it still doesn’t take away from my enjoyment of the DVD.
