Movie: Dodgeball Cast: Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Christine Taylor, Jason Bateman, Rip Torn Rating: TBA but obviously recommended Reviewer: Robin Cordeiro
The history of sports. There's nothing more wholesome and historic. When a group of kids get together to play an uplifting game of basketball, the gods of baskitball are singing somewhere up in basketball-heaven. When another group of kids start a grueling game of football, the legends are dancing in their graves. Everyone loves sports. Golf, basketball, football, soccer, tennis, you name it. People wll play it. But until today, there's been one sport that's been seriously overlooked. Dodgeball. This movie will make you apprieciate the sport of dodgeball, and even though it seems like a game that no one plays, it will show you that there's a whole other world. A world of dodgeball. The movie begins with a thorough introduction of Globo Gym, a huge multi-million dollar gym owned by White Goodman (Ben Stiller), a slimey, self-loving little twerp who thinks he's bigger than his size actually proves. Next door to Globo Gym, is the Average Joe's gym, run by Peter La Fleur (Vince Vaughn). Average Joe's doesn't care about the hype, or the money; they just care about being healthy and friendly with their customers, who've been coming there for quite some time. Although Average Joe's has one small problem: they're not very good when it comes to paying their bills. Kate Veatch (Christine Taylor) comes to sort things out due to an offer from Globo Gym to buy them out. When they find that they're in the hole $50,000, they decide to enter an underground dodgeball tournament to win the money and save the gym. It doesn't seem too hard to beat a team of little girl scouts to get into the tournament, right? You can find out for yourself. I don't wanna spoil the movie. I will say that I sincerely enjoyed the movie, and at times I was laughing out of my seat. My favorite character, though, was Patches O'Houlihan, (played by Rip Torn) the legendary dodgeball player, who agrees to coach the Average Joes. I guarantee you'll enjoy quite a few laughs if you go see this movie, and I reccommend you stay until after the credits, because there's a special scene there, and those seem to be the trend nowadays.
