Movie: Cheaper by the Dozen
Imagine a life were you have to raise 12 kids or where you are one of the kids having to life with 11 other siblings. In Cheaper By The Dozen, Tom Baker (Steve Martin) and Mary Baker (Bonnie Hunt) are the proud parents of 12 children. Of course, being the comedic individuals they are, Steve and Bonnie have a very exciting and hilarious family in this movie. The real excitement though comes from the kids and the numerous situations they get themselves into throughout this movie. Seeing these outlandish stunts might bring back childhood memories or make you wish you had done crazy things like that when you were a kid and still could get away with them.
As is known to many parents these days, raising a family is not only physical demanding, but also it is economically challenging. The same is so in this movie. Dad is a football coach at a small college and mom is a writer working on a book surprisingly about raising 12 children. The family’s happiness and stability becomes threatened when Tom is offered his dream job of coaching his alma mater Northwestern University in Chicago. Along with the job would come more prestige and most importantly more money. Before talking it over with the kids, Tom and Mary decided the money and move from the country to the city is a great idea. Unfortunately, the kids don’t find the move pleasing or exciting.
After settling down in the new house, the fun and chaos begins as the kids set out to make life miserable in attempt to convince mom and dad to move back to the old place. Like everyone that has moved at an early age, the children had a tough time fitting in. To make things worse, mom gets her book deal and has to go on a tour to promote her new book. This means dad is forced to not only take care of a household full of kids, but also coach a team of football players. Luckily for Tom, one of the twelve children has long moved out of the house and moved in with her boyfriend played by Ashton Kutcher.
When things start getting out of control in the house, dad looks to the oldest to come back home and help out. Unfortunately, the kids in the house want their oldest sister back so they take things out on her boyfriend. It is safe to say the things they do to the poor guy is worth admission itself. When the house begins looking like a disaster zone and Tom is forced to bring his job home, will he give up his dream job to make the kids happy? Also, will Mary be forced to leave the book tour early to come back and save the family and the house? Where will the family ultimately find happiness, if at all? Well, I will let you find that out.
I strongly recommend this movie for all families big and small. Yes, I would even recommend the movie for a date because I know I had a wonderful time and there was constant laughter throughout the theatre.
