Movie: Anchorman Cast: Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate, Steve Carell, Kevin Corrigan, Chuck D Rating: 5 out of 5 stars Reviewer: Robin Cordeiro
Once upon a time, a long time ago, the world used to be a place where people believed what they were told. And the way to tell the people what they needed to hear was through the news. The people that told the news were bowed down to, and looked upon as gods of their time. One man in particular, stood the test of time, and is thought to be the god of all those ... other gods. And his name is Ron Burgandy. Now the one thing that Mister Ron Burgandy loved to do more than anything, was to tell the news. To give the people what they needed to hear, and to do it right. Along with his grade-A news team, consisting of sportscaster Champ Kind (David Koechner), weatherman Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), and field reporter Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd), no one can surpass the Channel 4 KVWN Morning News Team. And that's when it happened. Someone challenged Ron Burgandy and his award-winning team of anchormen. Someone who didn't belong in their world of telling the news. And that person was Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate). In this little world the men had created, it was a personal insult that a woman, a little-brained woman, could just waltz into the newsroom and expect to tell the news to the people. Now this was just preposterous. But Veronica was willing to fight. And fight she did. Okay, now to get out of the story-telling mode, Anchorman is a really hilarious movie. I loved it. I was kind of apprehensive about seeing it at first, because SNL, although it has a great reputation for its humor on tv, the movies haven't always been that good in my opinion (i.e. Superstar .. or whatever that movie with that Catholic girl was). But I went to see it, because I have to admit that the commercials intrigued me, and sure enough, I wasn't disippointed. Will Ferrell is hands down the only comedian who could've pulled off this role, and the supporting actors each had their own niche that only they could do. Especially the character of Brick Tamland. If anyone else had played him, I would've considered the character completely stupid, but because Steve Carell has the persona he does, he made it perfect. Some of the jokes, were a bit stupid, but all in all, two thumbs up. And the cameos in it were perfect. I won't give it away as to who makes an appearance, but one particular "anchorman fight scene" brings it all together and slaps it with a side of hilarity. I've been going around all week since I saw it singing "Baxter, you are my little gentleman!" I guess for that to make sense, you should see the movie. If you're into this kind of off the wall, stupid slapstick comedy, then Anchorman is the movie for you. Hell, just go see it for the awesome retro clothing. Now stay classy, Media Fix readers.
